At Saturday's Pikes Peak International Hillclimb, Nobuhiro Tajima broke the long-standing course record (set in 1994) with a blistering time of 10:01.41 - just barely missing every racer's dream of being the first to break the ten minute barrier, but establishing himself in history nonetheless. Woodland Park local Leonard Vahsholtz achieved his record 18th victory in his class (he was racing a modified Explorer). The crowd on hand was smaller than in past years, with plenty of parking and viewing space available at Devil's Playground. However, with the road up the playground being paved, the cars weren't as entertaining to watch on the switchbacks below as in past years on dirt. With more and more of the course being paved any year, speeds will climb and times will drop in the coming years. We decided to hike up to the race instead of driving, but as a result missed the running of most of the cars as they went first, with the motorcycles and quads wrapping up the day (that explains the shortage of car pictures in the group below!)
