Going to the ballpark is a rite of passage for any toddler, yet the propsect of taking a fussy child to a major league ballpark can be a little intimidating. We chickened out, leaving our ten month old baby with her aunt and uncle instead while we sadly watched the Cubs get clobbered by the Rockies. However, we learned a lot from this experience that will make future games more fun for the whole family. Read on for some advice...

First of all, we were really, really surprised at the number of infants in the stands around us. We had thought we'd be the only ones there with a baby if we brought her, but it'd be far from the truth. The babies that had reached crawling age did seem restless and the parents were often getting up to take the baby elsewhere, but those younger ones did just fine.

Your choice of seats is critical. We attended an afternoon game with temperatures in the mid 90's. However, we lucked out as our seats in the Club Level were in the shade (the front row or two had sun at the beginning of the game but the shade moved in fast). Note though that it's only the 200-series Club Level seats along the third baseline that benefit from the shade; those sections on the first base line had shade in the upper rows, but most rows had the sun to contend with.

Another benefit of Club Level seating is the walkway behind the setions - it's closed off, carpeted, and air conditioned! A perfect place to let your baby crawl around if he/she needs a break, or just to go cool off. The restrooms at this level were some of the nicest ones I've seen in a ballpark; family restrooms were found on the main level, not sure if there were any on the Club Level. The regular bathrooms had changing tables.

We got a great deal on our Club Level tickets through Wells Fargo; customers can get two for one tickets (Club Level prices range from 45-75 normally). Our seats were in section 243 and were a decent place to watch the game from - not as close as I'd like, but the elevated perch made it quite good and I'd pick those seats again.

While it was possible to check your stroller at the ballpark, carrying a baby in is probably the best option. Navigating a stroller through the crowd would be just too much of a hassle.

So in summary, don't be afraid to take your baby to a Colorado Rockies game! Just pay a bit more to get some good seats in the shade and it'll be a comofrtable experience for everyone.
