Good news sports car fans, the Arapahoe County Board of Commissioners voted to approve CAMA's 'Use by Special Review' application for the High Plains Raceway project! Located around sixty miles east of Denver, the planned road course will be geared towards use primarily by local car clubs, among which it's received a lot of support due to the few options currently available to weekend speed junkies. For those of you unfamiliar with how car clubs use these, it's typically not racing, but rather, a chance for owners of high performance sports cars to drive their cars at illegal speeds in a safe, controlled environment. In fact, depending on the group renting the track that day, actual racing is usually prohibited and typical grounds for expulsion. Most groups even restrict where on the track you may pass another car (and for added safety, a 'point by' is typically required). This particular 2.5 mile track will feature some interesting elevation changes and 15 corners and I can't wait to try it out! They're still in the fundraising stage, so if you're feeling generous, please head over to
their website and learn how you can help make this project happen.
