On Wednesday, the Colorado Board of Education enacted new regulations prohibiting the sale of all sodas, including diet sodas, in school vending machines and cafeterias. The reason stated was to attempt to improve childrens' health, though contrary to that philosophy, high sugar drinks like juices and sports drinks will still be permitted. Can't have our kids drinking one-calorie Diet Cokes now, can we, that wouldn't be healthy?! Board member Evie Hudak was quoted as saying, "If they're allowed diet soda, kids get in the habit of drinking soda". Umm, yeah, DIET soda. How many people out there regularly switch between diet and regular soda? The taste difference is too great for most people. Is it really better to get them used to drinking juice and gatorade? Why not cut all vending machine sales and just install drinking fountains with clean, healthy, low calorie WATER?! You can read more
